This is the story of one of our recent custom media walls; a full architectural TV unit designed and installed for a private residence right here in Accra. The Design Process: From Scale to Concept
Our lead designer began in the living room, mapping the natural light, assessing the seating distance, and establishing the optimal viewing height. In a space this large, a small, floating shelf would be swallowed up. The wall demanded scale and presence.
The resulting design was an asymmetrical, wall-to-wall architectural feature. By blending different depths and textures, we created a unit that serves as both an entertainment hub and a gallery space. The design incorporated a heavy, grounding base console for concealed storage, offset by vertical slatted wood panelling to draw the eye upward and add acoustic warmth to the room.
To bridge the gap between technology and art, we integrated open display niches illuminated by soft, recessed LED lighting, perfect for highlighting sculptures, trailing plants, and coffee table books.
The Materials: Engineered for Luxury and Longevity
The foundation of an aspirational living space lies in the materials. This is where a custom 44 Wood build distinctly separates itself from mass-produced alternatives.
The Base Console – Premium Painted MDF For the lower storage runs, we utilized high-density MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) finished in a deeply saturated, matte charcoal black. MDF was chosen specifically because it takes paint to a flawless, ultra-smooth finish. The matte texture absorbs light beautifully, creating a grounded, cinematic feel that prevents screen glare while looking incredibly sleek.
The Feature Wall – Fluted Wood Panels & European MFC The backdrop for the television was crafted from moisture-resistant MFC (Melamine Faced Chipboard) sourced from our premium European suppliers, featuring a rich, hyper-realistic walnut grain. To add tactile luxury, we introduced custom fluted timber panels along the left axis.
This is crucial for luxury furniture in Ghana: we use 18mm European-grade core materials designed to hold their integrity in tropical environments. Our heat-bonded edge banding ensures that humidity never penetrates the core, meaning the pristine aesthetic remains flawless year after year.
Hardware – Seamless and Silent To maintain the minimalist, architectural look, we eliminated visible handles entirely. Every door and drawer features a premium push-to-open mechanism and soft-close hydraulics from our trusted European suppliers. A heavy drawer gliding open silently and closing with a gentle whisper is the defining tactile experience of true luxury furniture.
The Layout: Designing for Invisible Technology
A high-end TV unit must master the art of concealment. Technology should be experienced, not seen.
Integrated Cable Management This unit features an internal, fully concealed raceway system. Power cables, HDMI cords, and speaker wires run behind the back panels and directly into the base console. When looking at the screen, there is not a single wire in sight.
Ventilated Media Storage The lower cabinets were precisely measured to house the client’s amplifiers, Apple TV, and gaming consoles. We incorporated subtle rear ventilation to ensure these high-heat devices remain cool, protecting the electronics while keeping them entirely out of view.
Ambient LED Integration Lighting changes everything. We routed continuous, warm-white (3000K) LED strip lighting behind the television panel and within the display niches. This creates a halo effect that reduces eye strain during movie nights and transforms the entire wall into a glowing architectural feature when the TV is off.
The Installation: Precision Execution
A bespoke media wall is a piece of interior architecture. Every component of this unit was manufactured to the millimeter in our facility, ensuring a flawless fit upon arrival.
Installation is a meticulous process. It begins with establishing a laser-level datum line across the wall. The structural framework is anchored first, followed by the heavy base consoles, the decorative backing panels, and the integrated lighting.
Our installation team works closely with the client’s electricians to ensure all power and AV feeds are perfectly aligned with our pre-cut access points. The final day is dedicated strictly to calibration: aligning the shadow gaps, tuning the push-to-open latches, and balancing the lighting projection.
The Result
The living room is utterly transformed. What was once an empty, cavernous wall is now a sophisticated, tailored environment.
The cables are gone. The clutter is hidden. The warm walnut grain and matte charcoal finishes give the room an undeniable sense of prestige. In the evening, with the main house lights dimmed and the integrated LEDs glowing, the space feels like a private, high-end cinema lounge.
